Masterboard Mosaic #1

Another card using some of the same masterboard as the previous card, but in a mosaic format this time. This is actually the sixth, or maybe seventh pic I've taken, as they keep looking blurred, but I've come to the conclusion it's the way the light is reflecting off the peel offs I've coloured for the sentiment.













I started by punching out a number of squares from the masterboard sheet I had left. The punch is supposed to be a 1" punch, a Woodware one, but it's actually an inch and a quarter.
 It was as soon as I'd punched these out and lay them out, that I had an idea. The sort of idea I should have had before the punching, to be honest. But now I had it in my head, so it was going to get done.
 I'd thought it would look good with some gold embossing on the pieces.
 Clever, aren't I ?

So, I found some flourish stamps, and a gold inkpad. I laid out the stamps so one impression would get all the pieces.

Then of course, because they all stuck to the stamp, I had to peel them off. Covered them with powder, then used tweezers to shake it back off.
 It was a really good idea at the time, lol.

Anyway, heat set them, and job done.

Now to start laying them out, and to help with this, I'd cut some strips of card to keep the spaces even. The first row is lined up against a ruler, and a strip of card between each square. Then a strip down the side of the first 3, held in place with some low tack tape, and the next 3 laid down, and so on.












The image is trimmed down to leave a narrow border, then matted onto orange then pink card.
The flowers are a Spellbinders/Heartfelt Creations dies set called Delicate Aster.  I used the 2 smaller flowers, and cut them from a pink and orange-ish vellum.
 They were stacked up, and an orange mixture seed beads added to the centre with Glossy Accents.

To finish it off, I went again to the peel-offs, using a very small silver 'Happy Birthday', and colouring it with an orange permanent marker. Then I sorted out a very narrow line peel off, and coloured that the same. Both were arranged around the outside of the mosaic panel, and the flowers added to the bottom corner.

Mosaics again!

Three cards in this post, all using the mosaic layout.  The real beauty of these is that you can use up oddments, scraps, images that didn't come out properly- or you can stamp a bunch of random images and use those. It can't go wrong, as long as something unifies the design, whether its a theme or colours.For this one I used a couple of images stamped onto alcohol inked card in similar colours, added a word fragment with Glossy Accents, and a violin charm to echo the one in the stamped image. The phrase' Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep' is a Tim Holtz stamp, and I stamped it onto an offcut of alcohol inked card with Versafine Onyx Black, then cut it up into words and sentences so I could arrange it over the card. The phrase fits the theme perfectly- a card created from things that went wrong.

This one is a mix of scraps and deliberately stamped images, all heat embossed in either black or white. A completely eclectic mix of images unified by colour.

The third card was created with a selection of  randomly stamped images which I then punched out. Some have been heat embossed, some left without.
 The punch I used is a Woodware one, and punches out 1 1/4" squares.

WOYWW # 248

First Wednesday of March- this time flying lark is getting ridiculous! Another  jaunt over to The Stamping Ground, to join our illustrious (and industrious, looking at the last couple of posts) leader, Julia in our weekly snoop.
 A general shot of the untidiness left behind from the last few days cards I posted. This was taken Tuesday evening. So what have we got- centre front, some more mosaic card fronts made from left overs and stuff that didn't come out to well.There is a strong possibility I will over-use this method. A cotton bud- I have no idea- scalpel, ruler, tape runner- love these Stix2 ones- The Penguin Coaster is from Birdland. I do have a bit of a thing for Penguins. A syringe waiting to be filled with glue, above that some stamps, one a magazine freebie, and a couple that I found on the shelves of the Expedit that have dropped off their sheets. The really funky square glass jar full of paper strips is my mosaic grid method. I cut a bunch of thin strips that I use to keep the squares all the same distance apart- in theory. The Glitter cats are back, having a bit more done to them. May work, might not, we shall see. My heat gun hanging from a hook under the desk. Now I remember what the cotton bud was for- I added a violin charm to the front of the purple mosaic with Glossy Accents, and used it to clean up the stuff that squished out. May have used too much. Using the scraps............

Well, so far I made 5 cards using the Butterfly, Dragonfly and Ladybird stamps, and now I have 4 more, made using the offcuts and one scrap piece that didn't work out too well.

 This is probably my favourite technique for using up scraps and odds and ends- punch or cut into squares and make a mosaic.


 This one was made from the strip that some of the embossing rubbed off on.
 It fit nicely onto a 5x5 card, as the squares are a little larger.

These ones are on a 4x4 base, and I used a 1" punch for them.

 

Also 4x4, and used up all the remaining green/yellow bits.

WOYWW #246

Good Morning everyone- this is what currently resides on my desk, for this weeks Show & Tell, hosted as always by our Head Desker, Julia, at The Stamping Ground. Click the link and join in the fun.
Looking a whole lot tidier than it has for the last week, what with glitter for the Valentines card, and then gilding flakes, in my last two posts.Although I have to say, gilding flakes make glitter look positively well behaved.
 This card came from the scraps in my last post- the pieces that didn't come out as well as I wanted. I'd punched out some squares from them, and luckily got 9. It sort of shouted 'Oriental' at me, so that was how I went. Matted the squares onto black, then embossed gold card, then black again. Mounted that onto a square of Origami paper, then onto a square black card base. I also managed to punch a few dragonflies from the last remaining scrap bits,with an X-Cut punch that surprisingly goes through quite thick card easily, so added a couple of those, and a Chinese coin to finish the theme. Got a few dragonflies left over, and three more images to turn into cards. A few bits at the back, from a UFO a few weeks ago. Sat staring at me, waiting for inspiration to strike. So that's me, short and sweet this week- there's a novelty! After this has posted, I shall also be entering it into Pixies Snippets Challenge, as it came from scraps.

Lavinia Stamps Mosaics

Two cards here using some of my favourite stamps and definitely my favourite colour scheme in this one. I randomly stamped a bunch of Lavinia Stamps onto white card using Onyx Black Versafine.
 Then I used a Woodware punch to cut out as many pieces as I could get out of the images.

 Square punches are a bit odd, when you buy them.












The one I used for this was described as a 1"punch when I bought it, but the sides measure 1 1/4". I bought another 1" punch, but the sides of that  are 3/4", its the corner to corner measurement that is an inch. I haven't actually found a 1" punch that gives 1" sides yet. Its easy to cut them with a ruler, I know, but a punch is quicker.
 The squares were matted onto black card, in a grid. I use some thin strips of card I cut for the purpose, to keep my lines straight, with a ruler at the top & side.




It was trimmed to leave a border roughly the same as the joints between the squares.The sentiment was stamped in Onyx black again onto a scrap of white card, matted onto black, and some black acrylic hearts added.







The Mosaic panel went on to a white square card base. with some black &white eyelash wool wrapped around the cards spine.

I wanted to add some colour to the next one, so I stuck a selection of squares down onto scrap paper with repositionable tape.I added the colour with Inkylicious Colour Duster brushes, Distress Inks in Spun Sugar, Dried Marigold, Shaded Lilac and Salty Ocean.










                          I matted them up onto black card again, in the same order.

Trimmed the matt down, added it to a square card base again, and some multi coloured wool added to the spine. I treated a scrap of card with the same colours, then stamped the sentiment onto it, and added clear acrylic hearts this time.

Birthday Steampunk

Another card from one of my stamped up pieces. The main panel was an inked piece of glossy card- just Distress  Inks swiped onto a craft or Splodge Away mat, then the white card dragged through, or dipped onto it. Its overstamped in Black Versafine when dry, with an assortment of paper Artsy stamps.
 Then I decided to cut it into squares and matt it as a mosaic, onto black card.
 The base card was covered in a sheet of black paper that had been sprayed with a Purple mica mist spray.
I added a torn strip of paper from the Chronology paper pack, which is a sort of dirty purple colour.

I sponged on some more colour to it with DI in Dusty Concord & Chipped Sapphire.

Then ran it through the Cuttlebug in the Clockworks Cuttlebug folder.




I brought out the embossing detail by swiping the Chipped Sapphire pad over the raised areas.

This was added to the card front with DST, then the mosaic panel added on top.
An assortment of metal embellishments were added with Glossy Accents along with a triple embossed heart.
 The Birthday word, from Chocolate Baroque, was stamped & heat embossed onto a scrap of the inked card.

WOYWW #204

Time is really rushing by this year, isn't it? May is here, which means I need to get started on my WOYWW 4 ATC! Not long till the crop,either. So, once again under the watchful eye of our Leader, freshly rested from her hols, Julia at The Stamping Ground, we embark on this weeks shameless display of crafting mayhem.
So here it is, in all its untidy glory, my desk this week. I sort of convinced myself that when I had a bigger desk, I'd have more room to move. Doesn't work like that though, does it? No matter how big the table, we still end up working in a space the approximate size of the project.

I've been making a batch of cards using the glittered panels, all in the previous posts, and am now trying to use up other images I've had stamped up & unused since who knows when.
 The 12x12 sheep of paper is from the Chronology Papermania pack, all steampunkey. There are a few Crafty Individuals images there, along with assorted odds & ends.So a very short & sweet post this week, and I'll be visiting this morning before work, then back at it tomorrow! Mixed Monochrome

Ok, I promise this is the last of the monochrome for now(maybe). I just wondered how it would come out if I mixed the two types of images. Better than I expected, to be truthful, lol.I matted the squares onto a black/gold coloured base, then this onto black,white and then black again. I used some of the PDA card in white with silver flecks, and some black & white yarn around the front. As I said in WOYWW, these aren't true 'inchies', as they are closer to 1 1/2", but I like the size- gives a good sized panel, in whichever format you lay them out.

Monochrome in reverse

As I mentioned in the WOYWW post below, I wanted to do a reverse version of the monochrome card on my desk, and here it is. The stamping was much easier this time round, as I used Memento Tuxedo Black with clear embossing powder- no having to get rid of all the stray specks! It was also starting to have a 'male' feel to it, so I stamped a mans face image (Paper Artsy), and the 'Describe Him' text stamp, which is by Artifacts, from The Stamp Bug, which pulled it all together.The base card is from PDA Card & Paper, and is black with silver flecks on it- they also have a black with gold flecks, and white with gold or silver flecks. I didn't have any white webbing spray, ( I don't even know if there is such a thing), so this card was the best option.It has white eyelash wool tied around the spine instead of ribbon, but was made in exactly the same way.

WOYWW #99

This is my desk this week,starting with the completed card I was working on.I'm back with my favourite colour theme- Black, lol.

The base card is white pearl cut to 15cm square, scored & folded then sprayed with black webbing.I wanted to do a monochrome piece, and went for the trickier option of white stamping on black!

I tried a few images using different inks & embossing powders, and these are the results.
The greyish looking face section in the top left is White Staz-on & White pearl embossing powder. The music score, script and the tickets are all White Staz-on, no embossing, apart from the bottom left one which has a little embossing powder on it. The other three face sections are Moonlight White Brilliance ink, and White Detail embossing powder, which was much more successful.






However, the combo I finally went with was good old
Versamark and White Detail powder.
 I got a much more solid white print with this. These are leftover pieces from the various images I stamped, and as you can see from these and the card,  I cut them a bit randomly to give some movement to the compilation.

These are some of the stamps I used for
the images.I can see some Paper Artsy,
and some from Stamp Francisco.
I punched out some images,and cut out others to the width of one of my Clear rulers (which happens to be 3 1/2 cm, or 1 3/8in. ),which is the same as one of my Woodware punches, so it was easier to vary the orientation.You can see the punch in the bottom left of this picture.

I chose 9 of the images which seemed to work well together, and matted them onto white card with a gap between them then matted this onto black card, both trimmed to leave the same border. I gave the base a couple of blasts with black webbing, then tied back and white organza ribbon in a knot around the left side when it was dry.

There are some black on white images cut to the same size, so I can do an opposite version, and the flower panel is a stamp called Mixed 3 Square, F1276, from Impression Obsession.

 I came across these while looking for stamped images I could cut down. I stamped them ages ago, and never got round to using them.

So out came the Promarkers, and this is the result for one square. I have separated them into individual tiles and also covered them with Anitas  3D Clear Gloss Finish, which is the same as Glossy Accents, as when I had finished the colouring, I was reminded of Victorian tiles. Thats my desk for this week, so off to the Lady Julias domain to view this weeks offerings, and a Happy WOYWW to everyone.

Mosaic Birthday

White smooth card, brayered with Adirondack Sunshine Yellow & Distress Shabby Shutters, leaving the central part white.Stampscapes Cloud w/Crescent Moon, 202G was stamped at the top of the card, then Pines & Rocks, 195G,was stamped 3 times across the card,using a stamp positioner, all in Black Staz-on. Allowed to dry, then a little colour added to the rocks with Adirondack Espresso, with a sponge. The image was trimmed to 10 1/2 cm square, then cut into 3 1/2x3 1/2 cm squares. Reassembled and mounted onto a piece of bronze card, leaving a narrow gap between each square. This panel was mounted onto a square (15cm) black base card. Sentiment added to a small label, and threaded with a short piece of Bronze ribbon.
