This is one I really wish I had a picture for, but Doug said he didn't think about it in time.
Monday night we went to the 02 Academy in Birmingham for a concert. All went well till the end, when we are about to leave. Doug tells me to wait for the lift- it's 3 flights of stairs- and he'll meet me downstairs. It's only a small lift, for disabled use, manned by one of the stewards. Takes them, and 4 people at a time. So, in we get, lift moves a foot, and stops. Totally. Won't go up, won't go down. By now Doug had come back upstairs, and from what he told me after, they couldn't find the outer door key- no-one knew who had it! They had to call the fire brigade to get us out. It also seems it was a bit of a shambles as they had 3 or 4 people in motorised wheelchairs to get out, with no lift. There is a door on the opposite side of the venue which is at street level- it's on a hill- but that involved putting ramps in place to get them up steps. If it had been an emergency evacuation, without doubt there would have been casualties, it was a total farce.Doug had to show the stewards how to put the ramps together effectively, and help get people out. He's given them hell in an email today- being a Health & Safety officer & Fire Warden at work, he knows what he's talking about.
So, thats this weeks drama, lol. Onto the desk, and not a lot happening yet, to be honest. Doug's got a weeks holiday this week, so we've been doing stuff around the house & garden.
A couple of purchases, some word dies, and a balloon stencil. From Aliexpress.
Anyone wanting to have a look there, it looks like they have a sale on on the 11th November, only 20p or 30p off stuff, but when they're less than £2 anyway, it's still a bargain.
The stencil is about 6" square, for scale.
Pulled these over onto my desk to finish during the week, and there are
more of the strip type cards in the post below that I did over the
weekend.
Also made another 3 of the snowflake wreath cards, to use up the remaining snowflakes.
And I think I'm done. Linking over at Julias place, The Stamping Ground, for our regular desk fest, and I'll be round to visit in a while.
And Finally.....................................

oh Shaz! I am sorry that I am sitting here smirking, but glad that there was a happy outcome and you escaped the lift. such a shame there are no photos!! Hope they respond to Doug's email. Have a great week (no more adventures!!)
The cards look gorgeous. Helen #??
Lifts are scary at the best of times... Glad all ok in the end!
Happy WOYWW :)

Ah Shaz I saw the stripe cards earlier when waiting for UK to wake up over there. Seems weird now you’re off daylight saving and we’re onit so much further ahead.
Wow that shambles with inefficient lift rescue was crazy, and as you say dangerous.
The crazy side was kinda like was my wheelchair assistance I requested in Manchester!!
Waited with crew on plane (couldn’t leave poor things) because they didn’t bring wheel chair for me, Everywhere else they knew it was just wheelchair assistance. No.
At Manchester it was a huge two man vehicle, as high as plane, a driver at ground level, and someone to assist on plane door level, ie another storey up, a big vehicle to hold a eight (4 rows of 2) disabled people.
Just for me!! Yours was total incompetence mine was total overkill.
Meant Margaret, Chris, pilot and two hosties, three staff on plane all waited while they faffed around when one wheelchair was all that was needed!
Am glad that Doug followed it up.
Love the wreath cards.. grand idea.
So behind here...
Thanks so much for your great desky share.

{Calligraphy Cards - Shaz in Oz}
Ah your cards are so lovely. Horrified by the untrained stadium staff, I hope the management see fit to provide proof to you that there is to be real training, The lift scenario is horrible, but one accepts that happens occasionally, but not the attendant ignorance, oh dear. Grim end to a probably great night. Had to smile at Shaz’s comment about the disabled access lift...we went through this in Spain with my dad. They had 6 passengers six it made a bit more sense. Took twent extra minutes to old them, and then they collected all their passports because they had to hand write receipts to prove that they’d provided the service. All this in a language that not one of the users understood unluckily, because being English and having your passport taken off you is very unnnerving!!
Happy WOYWW. I am not impressed with the stewards either. They really need training - and you would have thought that disabled access could be improved at such a large venue. Lovely cards. Aliexpress - I stay away, as it would be very easy to spend money on things that I do not need! Ali x #8
Your not the first person I know to have had issues with that Lift Shaz and believe me it is not only used for those that are unable to make those flights of stairs. You'll probably find the key was last used to let a Plus one up to the lounge area from a Tour Bus.. Glad all was resolved safely and I hope Doug gets a result from his email.
You have such patience with those die cuts Shaz, I get agitated just looking at mine hee hee! Love those snowflake wreaths.

P.S Hope you enjoyed the gig?
Good for Doug for showing them how it should be done but it's bad that the scenario had to happen in the first place. Just as well you didn't have anyone who was claustrophobic in there with you. Hopefully the email should kick some butt.
Love those cards, the snowflakes are soooooo pretty!!
Hugs LLJ 11 xxx
What an awful situation to be in but so lucky that it wasn't an emergency evacuation and no-one panicked. I hope they take note of Doug's email and get some staff training initiated.
I do love your Christmas cards, they are so classy and beautiful.
Hope you have a great week,

I am not a fan of lifts but out of necessity ...
Remember taking Chas's mother to look at nursing homes and getting stuck in one - petrified but tried my best with jokes about hunky firemen coming to our rescue. I was already scared so that didn't help. As you say though, your incident could have been nasty.
Lovely craftwork going on, beautiful cards in the making as always.
Hugs, Neet 10 xx
Trust your very capable young man to step up to the mark and show them what to do. What an ordeal and as you could say in an emergency it could have all ended rather differently. So glad you're all safe and sound now but they need a good shake up over it.
Hugs,

Only you!!!
Thank goodness for Doug being so helpful to others if he couldn't help you.
Glad you arrived back home safe, must've been soooo frightening ....

What an adventure! I'm glad you got out of that lift - I'm sure it was annoying an even scary at the time, but makes a good story! Lucky there wasn't an emergency. I hate lifts and always choose the stairs if I can help it. At least then I'm in control of the situation, whereas in a lift, you're totally trapped! Thanks for your visit earlier, Shaz! I'm sure you'll make some amazing things with your new goodies. zsuzsa #23
Ha ha! I'm definitely that old! But it's so easy now to take pictures of anything and everything! Remember when we had to be careful of what we took pics of, so as not to waste film! I like today's way better! Instant gratification!
Your story is really alarming, it's a good thing there wasn't a fire or anything. I hope your hubby follows up on his email to make sure things are safer for you and everyone else next time.
Love your wreath cards, they look so delicate and beautiful! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #32
Oh my goodness! What a situation! Glad you all got rescued safely! And glad Doug was able to help and hopefully rectify the problem! Love your snowflake wreath cards! So elegant! And so fun purchases! Love the quote! Have a GREAT week!

Hi Shaz, I'd hate to be stuck in a lift, as I don't like small spaces. Trouble is I can only go up escalators, as coming down I freeze at the top, so use the lift. In an emergency I would do the stairs.
Have fun with your new stash. More beautiful cards.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Thank goodness everyone got out safely in the end Shaz. What a shambles! Thanks for linking up my blog post. I enjoyed the NEC. There was plenty of variety of stalls and you could get products by most companies even if they weren't there in person so to speak. I particularly liked the range of workshops on offer. The only down side is the price. You need to get tickets on a deal, come in a group to split parking and pay up the day before (although at £12 even in advance I feel it's a rip off). Sarah #17
Well done Doug - they deserve every bit of "info" he could give them! So glad it was a happy outcome - could have been awful. I have passed on your comment to Max - she will be pleased - it's nice to get feedback. xx Jo
Omgosh Shaz, that could have gone horribly disastrous, pleased to hear the outcome was good. Obvious, a need for health and safety to get involved in this venue., Kate x
Hi Shaz. Now this sounds like an interesting day out you had Lol! Good job Doug knew what he was doing. I enjoyed the NEC but then I had a complementary ticket which makes it even better of course. I like the November one better than the one earlier in the year as there always seems to be more to see. Hope you have a great week and a lovely woyww, Angela x15x
Hi Shaz, i really can't thinking of anything worse than being stuck in a lift. Well maybe 1 or 2 things! Shocking how badly organised they were. I hope Doug gets a proper answer to his email. I'm loving the wreath cards, they look gorgeous. Thanks for stopping by earlier, it was the speed of the sewing machine that spoilt the sample letters I sewed. I think my handstitching is a tad slower! Have a lovely week Heather x #7
Hi Shaz, hahaha I still have days I do not take a picture of anything lol. OOh that is so lucky that Doug had the know how to help all those people be helped out. whew. It looks like you have been very busy too :) ~Stacy #29
Hi Shaz, I tried to leave a comment from my so-called 'smart phone' yesterday but found it wouldn't let me. Technology, eh!!! Your experience in the lift was awful but how good that Doug was there to help. Hopefully his email leads to improvements in how they train their staff. I've bought from Aliexpress before and been pleased with the service so I might just pop over on 11th and maybe grab a bargain. That's a fabulous stock of flowers you've built up and your wreath cards are beautiful ... must have taken some time to glue the snowflakes in place. Enjoyed the funny ... I'm old enough too. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #26
What a story about the lift. A little scary but glad it all worked out. Thanks for your earlier visit. I'll post a photo of the final layout once I'm done. Dorlene #30
Some people will do anything to get a hunky fireman!!! Seriously though, Shaz, what an adventure you had and it must have been pretty scary. Glad you all got out OK. Reminds me of some school kids being asked to say who they'd like to get stuck in a lift with, and they all came up with their favourite celebrities, and then one little girl said, "The lift man."
Lovely new stash you've got, and you've made some really pretty cards too.
Thank you for your visit - my oncology appointment on Thurs. went very well (all is still fine) and yes, a real pain about the pants but at least I've got one wearable pair, and the other 2 should arrive soon. Glad you like my peacock feathers!
Sorry about the delay replying - been a very busy few days.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi #13 xx
Oh no! Shaz, I am so glad all turned out well. I'm also proud of Doug for sending that email. Sadly, when it comes to handicap regulations, a lot of people/ businesses still need to be educated.
As for the cards, lovely as always. As to my SU set.. it's similar to one they had several years ago. I'll try to find that and share the name this week. You may have it. Creative Blessings! Kelly
