WOYWW #594- The Christmas Stocking Edition.

Here we are again, back at The Stamping Ground, with our much loved leader, Julia, for another Wednesday desk hop.

Long shot of the desk, covered in half made cards, stamps, inkpads and assorted other odds and ends.

The sheet of clear stamps are all HoneyDoo Christmas stamps, used for the cards you can see. The pack of fancy card at the front was bought last time we went to the NEC, sort of oil on water finish to it. I'd used some for the bells, and some baubles I'd also stamped. Like an idiot, I stamped in Versafine, which totally will not dry on shiny/coated surfaces. So I redid the bells, and haven't got round to the baubles yet.

Here are the Christmas stockings, cut down to fit on a square card base, and matted ready.

The Holly & bells, I stamped the bells again onto gold paper, with gold pigment ink, and heat set with gold EP. Matted onto gold card.

Also discovered, via a bit of You Tube searching, why I was having so much trouble colouring & shading. I'd been working from light to dark, which to me seemed logical, when in fact you're supposed to work dark to light, and going over the previous section with the next shade. So, you learn something new every day, lol.

These stamps on the left Julia are the ones I was telling you about. I also added a Birthday background stamp- lots of words and phrases for birthdays. Saw a sample done with it stamped in black onto an ink blended background, and thought it would make some quick birthday cards, just add a die cut sentiment. Or you could stamp in Versamark, heat set with white EP, then ink blend over that, so a few options.

Speaking of sentiments, I picked this up in The Range. I have a few friends who don't celebrate Christmas as such, so thought this will be useful. I think it was about £3.50.

So thats my desk for this week, and my regular enabling provided- you're welcome,😀.

Which brings us round to ..........And Finally.............

Happy WOYWW. So many gorgeous cards. Every year my desire to make cards just gets smaller and smaller. I am doing some to raise funds for animal rescue, and there will be a few for very close family. Just had 2 birthdays in our family and I went to FunkyPigeon.com to order their cards! I was impressed by the selection actually. Ali x #7

Another great woodware stamp, the JH script looks very useful too. You've made so many Christmas cards Shaz, I too need to start very soon. I laughed so much at the gorilla funny, not into smacking but I know that feeling too well haa haa!! Have fun, take care & stay creative Shaz, can't believe it's a whole year since any NEC show... I haven't been to a craft show for a very long time it seems... I always used to come back laden with stuff, which really inspired me on the day but often sits in a corner somewhere waiting to be used. Love the look of those stamp sets! I may take a look online for those!

Hi Shaz. Well, where to start - so much to see and read about. Those stocking toppers are just beautiful. Well done. The bells are lovely - and I'm with you. I would have started colouring light first and getting darker... would seem logical to little me. Lovely birthday stamp - it looks enormous. That's a good sentiment for your friends who don't celebrate Christmas, but still have a break and a celebration. Laughed loudly at the "and finally"s!! Brilliant - where DO you find them.
Take care. God bless.

Brilliant stuff, and am super impressed that you’ve done all the matting in preparation too, my word you know how to produce in multiples! Totally see what you mean about those two new stamps, and yes, it is classic enabling, I May do some myself next week, I bought a couple new stamps that came this week but my desk is in such a state I forgot to dig them out and show them off!

The DIY book funny made me hoot!! Tickled my funny bone that did :-D. Lovely cards and who'd have thunk that you're supposed to shade from dark to light, that's just wrong!!

Your cards are looking gorgeous, and yep I've definitely stamped the wrong inks onto shiny card - frustrating isn't it! I love the Christmas sentiments stamp set, I wonder if they do the same script for birthdays - I must have a look out.
I just love the Gorilla photo as the end - so funny and so like humans!
Have a great week,

Hi Shaz, loving the funnies. I'd like to see the finished book he made Lol! Your cards are lovely, such a brilliant collection. Hope you find the shading easier now. There seems to be a variety of ways that people prefer to do there shading but the rule was always darker shade first then the lighter but starting with a mid tone can work too but you're always going to add the lighter tone to blend everything. You can see this if you watch someone shading with graphite pencils but I'm definitely no expert in this. Have a lovely woyww, Angela x20x

Hi, Shaz!
You desk looks pretty tidy by my standards...isn’t it fun to have more than one project going?

Julia mention that your hubby is an IT wiz! Can he recommend a free Zoom download for folks in the US.?
I tried one link, and turns out it wasn’t free at all and it wanted to upgrade my pc.. so I uninstalled!

Stay safe!

Happy Wednesday!

You are so productive with your cards, Shaz - a regular production line! I'm not really a card maker except out of necessity, but when I've done a lot of small drawings or paintings, the logical use to put them to is cards, so I suppose I approach it from the other way around lol!

Hope you are keeping well.

Been mulling it over and think its worth paying for zoom. Have a couple of questions to ask them first though, like what about zoom .us and zoom.uk, and will the Twain meet! It works out cheaper than going away for a weekend crop and I can use it for other stuff too, so don’t worry about that part of it, please stand doug down and I will attempt it from this end. It may involve a million phone calls though!!! Xxxx

Hi SHaz! Sorry I'm late but the internet nearly drove me to drink yesterday it was so slow so catching up today. Love your stockings they are so vibrant! Was interested to see your comment about shading. Many years ago I spoke to a lady selling copics on a stall and she said the simplest was was to start with at least three colours, go light (all over), to dark (detail) and then go over again in reverse order. So that's what I have always done but mind you I rarely colour anything big enough to need a lot of shading!! Stay well, stay safe, Cindy x

Hi there dear Shaz,
I looked and read this almost first thing yesterday when linked over yesterday. But “time flies said the monkey as he threw the clock at the cat”, or so my Yorkshire grandmother would say, never knew if she’d made it up or if it was real saying.
Love your gold paper it caught my eye. Couldn’t you heat emboss with EP the wet versafine? I’d have thought that would work a treat. Loved your funnies too of course.
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

I smiled at your expression "slapped into next week" as much as the picture - which is so true! Thanks for that, I needed a smile (back been a nightmare this morning).
Love the "Festive Wishes" idea, perfect! As are your stocking cards, they look fabulous all lined up like that. Why just one blue one?
I too always coloured from light to dark - you live and learn.
Take care the two of you. Hope Doug's family who were in the fire are doing well.
Hugs, Neet 6 xx

Hi Shaz, if the bells or ornaments are still wet ( which they would be) and have not smeared, it may be possible to save them dumping on some clear embossing powder and heat setting the ink. ( I tend to reach for versafine always) so, that is something that has saved some glossy backgrounds for me many times.
It looks like such a happy production is going on, in your studio :) ~Stacy #33

Hi, good to be back in the saddle post-op, didn't think it would take me 2 months to get back to crafting, although I haven't been just sitting around, just doing other things...
Loving the Christmas cards, I gave up making mine a few years back and don't really think I'll take it up again. Love how you stamp on patterned paper, super job.
Thanks for the visit BJ#26

Hi Shaz, sorry for the late visit, I have gremlins in the works! Love your cards and the new stamp sets, as you say the birthday sentiment one would look fab stamped on a blended background wouldn't it? I'm on a huge card-making kick at the moment, we have way more than we'll ever use and sadly no craft fairs going on at the moment, I might have to see if any local charity shops want them. YT is such a great source of inspiration isn't it - as are all the ideas you guys give me every week :) Have a good one. Annie C #23

ooh you are SO super organized again! Would have NOT have thought of stamping the bells onto gold card and embossing in gold - brilliant idea, I would have coloured them gold and it would have taken ages, will remember this top tip (obvious now I think about it be never would have dawned on me!!)

Good morning, Shaz! Thanks for the visit! Always look forward to seeing you. LOL Your ape picture made me laugh, but yep a stern discussion at least! Lovely cards. I always admire your cards. So colorful and elegant. I see so many designs I'd love to do that just don't transfer for square to A4 but our postal system charges so much more for square... and postage is to go up again, I hear. Geez! Love the Sara Wilson, die. She is so creative. You two make a fine pair. Creative Blessings! Kelly #31
