WOYWW #454

And a Happy Valentines Day to everyone!  Our mid-week desk-fest begins again, over at  Julias, the Mistress of the Desks,at The Stamping ground.
So, what do i have for you this week? Well, I took myself out to town for a walk around yesterday, and popped into The Works, as you do. Snagged a couple of bargains, some Black acrylic paint, and some clear Banner stamps.

Made some Stampscapes cards, in the post below.
Then I was working on Beloved Hubbys Valentines card, and picked up one of my pairs of scissors, when I remembered something I saw on a TH video from Creativation, on some Tonic scissors.
He said as well as being non stick the pair of blades had one that was serrated, and one plain. So you could flip them over and either cut a tiny serrated edge, or a plain one. Now, rather like the other Tonic releases, these looked exactly like my X-Cut ones I've had for quite a few years. I kept meaning to check mine, as the main reason I rarely use them is I don't always like the serrated edge if I cut something out with them.
And guess what? Yep, mine too have the same pair of blades. Leaving me with two questions- how have I never noticed this? and How come EVERY single time I've used them, I've always picked them up the same way?

Not sure how well these pics will show it, but  this way up you will get a smooth cut . I cut a piece off the card its lay on to show a smooth cut.
Serrated blade at the top, smooth one at the bottom.

This way up- serrated blade at the bottom- you get a serrated edge, hopefully you can see it on the cardstock.

So, apart from this exciting discovery, it convinces me even more that Tonic manufacture X-Cut.

And posted at the bottom so it won't appear on our FB feed, Beloved Hubbys card. I've never made a shaker card before, and I'll blog it in a few days, as it wasn't so much a learning curve, as a learning Ski slope, and I can't ski!

And Finally....................

Speaking for most of us, I think.😏

those banner stamps look great, not been into the Works for a while ... great card you made for Doug, happy Valentine's to you both! interesting about your scissors... obviously another item that has been taken, possibly tweaked very slightly and had the TH name (and cost) added to it! Helen #?

Hi Shaz. I've noticed that The Range seem to be cutting back on Tonic and are stocking more X cut instead. I wonder if it's related. I'm sure Douglas will love his card it's fab. Sarah. #?

Love your funny quote at the bottom and love your Valentine card for Doug.
I think so many of these companies are linked in some way - and those that are not do an almost direct copy - look at the Misti and all its followers.
Love your Scenic work - one day i will get to spend time with you - another crop maybe?

That is interesting about the Xcut scissors. I was also wondering about the new tonic scissors and how they differ. Always a smart move to check what you have before getting a "new" tool. Great Valentine card and Have a wonderful week! xo Cheetarah #24

Happy WOYWW. I must get to our local Works soon, as I like to go in occasionally and spend a few pounds! I noticed that they now do a 'diecutting pokey tool/brush thingy' - like the more expensive original. Our local store doesn't always have everything in their crafty range, so will look on the website later to see if there are any left. Great card. I have only ever made one shaker card - well, it was a Christmas tag. Not my finest creation - I struggle with double-sided foam tape at the best of times. Ali x #30

That's interesting about the scissors! I checked all mine but none of the serrated blades. Very cool banner stamps. And what a great shaker Valentine Card!! I have to admit, I rarely buy anything in craft stores anymore since I joined the company I'm with. But I LOOK! Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!

Happy WOYWW and Valentines Day!
Huh...like you, how do I always use my scissors the same way? Now I need to go home and check them out. Love Doug's card; I can only imagine the patience needed for a shaker card. I'd say you've gotten past the Bunny slope! And your saying is so very true!! Have a great week.

I'm with you, on the Tonic, X Cut Carl and now Tim Holtz signature stuff. ANd like you, I've stopped using my x cut scissors because of the serration. Doh! Meanwhile, I'm also with you on the shaker thing..I had a lovely set of stamps and instructions for a snowglobe shaker card and it did not go well. Never tried again!

Hi Shaz. I like those banner stamps - really useful! Hmmm - am in Llandudno tomorrow.... Gorgeous card for hubby. I like the idea of the ski slope learning mountain!!! I think I have only once made a shaker card - I rather agree..
Take care. God bless.

Never mind the craft store, keep me off the pc!! Nice stash from the works, always have to have a look see in any 'cheapy' store - find some right good bargains! I don't do a lot of ironing but I do have a thing for ironed sheets and a few of my own bits. I have let them build up. Plus a few iron-needing shirts were worn over Christmas but I rarely iron for anyone else but myself!! Can't believe how it has built up though. Probably make a start in front of tv tonight as OH is out. Thanks for the visit, Happy Wednesday, Cindy #22

Hey girlfriend! Thanks for visiting me. I missed you all. First, I love those little banner stamps. I could use those in bullet journal. I just started one this year and really like it. Now isn't that the funniest thing that you pick up your scissors the same way every time!! I love it. I just ordered the new glass craft mat from TH and awaiting it's arrival. I hope it lives up to the hype. I love that quote. It's definitely speaking about me - no self control at Craft stores!
Have a blessed day!

Hi Shaz, love the funny!!! I can sort of identify with that, bearing in mind where I am going to be tomorrow... Fascinating about the scissors. I've got the Tonic ones and knew they had a serrated edge but I'll have to have a closer look at them and see if one is smooth, and what difference it makes to the cut. I've just never thought about it! I LOVE the Valentine card you made for your hubby! It's really great. Funnily enough, my hubby gave me one that said "I love you to the moon and back" as well! Glad you like the one I made for him. Your landscape stamps are anmazing - I didn't know you could mix and match them like that. You have coloured them so beautifully, too. Thank you for your lovely comment and your good wishes. I am really looking forward to the show tomorrow, and I'm glad they didn't call me in for my operation yet or I'd have missed the show!

Hugs to you both and happy WOYWW,

adventures in shaker making is some days still a learning curve because, as soon as you figure it out one way you find another way to do it. or people come out with "pouch window things" ( I've caved and bought some but, not played with those yet) I love the card that you made for him Shaz. Happy V day! :) ~Stacy #36

Hi Shaz, i love the quote at the end of your post! Are all crafters shopaholics? Is there an association we can join? Ah yes we joined it ... WOYWW lol. I have some Xcut scissors ... must remember to check them, when I find them! Odd that you always picked them up the same way! That's a gorgeous card you made for your hubby. I'm glad I didn't post a pic of the one I made ... yours puts mind to shame. Pretty good for a non-skier! Thanks for stopping by. Have a lovely week Heather xx #13

Oh my Shaz that is so funny. I tool my mum to a garden centre yesterday that we'd not been to in ages and when we got there what did I find but they'd opened up a Crafter's Companion shop!!! What could I do! I had to go in of course and yes I bought something! Loving the card, ages since I made one of these. Have a great woyww and a happy crafty week, Angela x20x

WOW! Love the getting out of the car meme...says it all for me of late. I have noticed it seems like when one person/group come out with a really useful tool it seems more artists show up with a similar one with their name on it. Tim Holtz is a great example or that...he is either appropriating a design or someone is taking over one of his. Love the cards below. Hope you have a great day. Vickie #39

I have the exact same scissors and never knew that one of the blades is non-serrated! I must have picked them up the same way every time too! Your shaker card looks so cute with all the little hearts inside! I'm sure hubby appreciated the sentiment. LOL at the quote! Thanks for your visit earlier! Have a lovely week! zsuzsa #9

Thanks Shaz, I too have had those non stick xcut scissors for many years and put them aside because I didn't like the serrated edge. On your infomation I got them out and guess what? Turn them over is the trick, well who knew!!!

I was looking at those banner stamps this week too! Might have to go back and buy them now. I didn't know that about the scissors, I disliked the serrated edge so don't use mine often, think I will now!

Due to an unexpected assignment coming in I'm way late with my visit, ohmy, it's already Wednesday again! But now I'm here and I'm so glad I did 'cause I just checked my Tim Holz scissors (one big and one smaller) and YESSS, they do have different blades! I can't believe I never noticed that... I always grab another scissor when i want to cut a straigth edge... so I too seem to always pick up the scissors in the same way. I'm soooo glad with this discovery, thanks!!! Have a great week!
