No desk to show, but I have got screenshots of what I have been up to.
So the garden is on the back boiler due to it raining for the last two weekends, but working during the week is helping to keep my mind focused.
So as I could not get into the garden I have instead been focussing on researching the family tree, as some will be aware both Shaz and I did a DNA test through a company called myheritage these were one of tests that trace your DNA origins, but it does so in a way that gives you your geographical origins rather than a family history (hope that makes sense?)
so for an additional fee (subscription) you can take start to build a family tree, using some of their automated research tools that dips into births/deaths and marriage registers etc along with a bunch of other places like others own trees.
It has been interesting, enlightening and kinda therapeutic at the same time.
As you can see from the image to the right, I am mostly English and Welsh, this I knew already and was the expected result.
And
lets face it
Boring in comparison to Sharon's which we will look at next..
So here I give you Sharon, and her DNA, with just 14.8% English & 27.0% Irish/Scottish/Welsh that amounts to 41.8% for the UK .
Still less than the 42.9% Scandinavian, and all the other bits from the Viking pillaging ha ha .
Now that my friends is a cool Origin story worth investigating.
And therein lies the problem.
I cant see Vikings registering many births.
But I have found some of Sharon's relatives (yet to be fully confirmed) below is a screenshot of as far back as I have gone, each colour (blue and pink) above a picture is additional branches so it would be impossible to do an all inclusive picture.
At the bottom of the tree we have Sharon's Mother and late Father, above them I have gone back as far as her Great Great Great Grandparents Thomas and Emma Morris and the year born in 1852 & 1848 respectively.
Mine goes back on my mothers side to my great great great grandparents Thomas and Mary lander 1861 and 1862 respectively.
Back to the garden hopefully this weekend as I have a new plan for the building I am building, more on that later.
So that's it from me, I am late posting this and I wasn't going to do it as a WOYWW post either , but hey ho, lets get Sharon's blog on the list again.
Gratuitous shot of us from our nieces (in the picture) 21st birthday party in 2013

I’m rather late in the day joining in the fun this week. I’ve been head down all day making two very special little bears full of emotions but am thrilled with the results so it’s been very rewarding ( I may share next week).
How interesting. I’m sure you will enjoy finding out who’s in the family 😀
Hugs,

Researching your family tree is addictive once you get into it. It's so fascinating to find out about the past lives. My family skipped a generation as my Gran was 47 when dad was born - she was born in the early 1870s and lived to be 100!!I chuckled at the thought of Shaz's relatives being Viking pillagers - she would like that I think! xx Jo
Hi Doug, how fascinating this must be for you, and sounds like something you can really get your teeth into. The weather will change and you'll manage to get into the garden too, take care, Kate x
Good to see you again this week - hope you can get back to the garden work soon, but the dna investigation sounds fascinating!! take care. Helen #5
I still love the fact that Shaz was half Viking, it explains a lot! At least you have a reasonable surname to search, can you imagine looking for Williams (my maiden name) in Wales! The weather definitely hasn’t been conducive for gardening so good to do something indoors!
Hugs LLJ 7 xx
Hi Doug, oooooh - I am also researching my family tree - I've gone back quite a way and find it all fascinating. Now then .... my father and grandfather were both Welsh, and thus lots of distant relatives/branches in Wales .... and their surname was Brooks! I wonder ... great photo of you and Shaz! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #23
Oh I can just imagine Shaz as a Viking, Doug. Great research. My parents have done a lot of work on our family tree and have gont back as far as the 15th century - no royal connections though lol. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #1
Just popped back to check for late arrivals and here you are. Pleased you're keeping busy. We're just about keeping on top of everything here with my mum and I'm keeping Wednesday free for the Blog visits. Take care and enjoy the gardening. Happy belated woyww, Angela x17x
How fascinating to find that all out. I know about my Dad's family tree back to 1700s, and my Mum's back to 1824 thanks to my Gran, but Shaz's is fascinating. Happy WOYWW (a day late!). Take care and stay safe, With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#19)
That's a great job, doing the family tree, Doug. Mum did hers and I helped her with it - I did the final chart with all the labels etc - it came out really big and she got it framed. She did it all without the benefit of the Internet (she was completely computer illiterate) and actually it was before I even had a computer! My cousin took over the project and found out some more information as well - he's a computer programmer so no problems there! Mum and I went on a few field trips and found graveyards and houses where various ancestors were, and it was quite interesting. My family is quite plebeian compared with my hubby's which goes back to the Norman Conquest and has several brushes with royalty - unfortunately wrong side of the blanket haha! As far as I know, no Viking pillaging on either side of the family, though.
Lovely pic of you and Shaz.
Happy belated WOYWW,

Fascinating stuff! I'm fast running out of people to get information from in my family but I'm very intrigued! Apologies for the delay but I was taken ill Wednesday afternoon and I'm only just coming out of it! Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #4
how werid, your first link lead to my Blogger posts out the back in design! Hows that suppose to happen then!? Anyway, my mum, God rest her, used to do all the sorting with family trees. She found out loads of things that her mum in law/my nan, told her were big fat fibs! She told her she came from Canada, no. She said my dad was a twin, no. His sister was two years younger than him and she said all my dads brothers and sisters, half brothers included, where dead.No. oh well, don't think I've got Viking Blood! Sorry so late. Stay Safe. Happy WOYWW ((Lyn)) #17 I think!
