WOYWW #489

Took this last night, as I have a docs appointment with the nurse for a diabetes blood test and Pneumonia jab this morning. That could end up taking a while. Thanks to the good old chemo, my veins are a mess, and I am 'trying to get blood out of a stone' personified, lol. Really, I've left before now with holes in both elbows, back of both hands, and usually at least one wrist. Fortunately, nurses seem able to do this painlessly, the only time I've had a doctor trying to get blood, I ended up with the back of my hand totally black, a lump the size of half a grapefruit, and he still ended up with no blood!

Card making stuff in evidence, there has been a flurry of snowflake cards (Sorry) made over the last few days.

I die cut a huge number of snowflakes on Saturday, as I have a few projects in mind with them. If I'd known how long it was going to take, I'm not sure I'd have bothered. An hour or so, I thought. Easy. What with multiple passes, shimming, finding the 'sweet spot' on the platform, recutting, it ended up taking me all day.

The only ones that cut first time, every time were the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Snowflake Alterations.
Those trays, by the way- I found a pack of them in a cupboard. Meant for party snacks, but thought they'd be really useful in my craft room, lol.

I made 3 cards like this, using layered up snowflakes.

These two were from earlier Tuesday, again layered snowflakes on top of an embossing folder.

Still plenty of snowflakes left.

And don't you just love a happy accident? I also cut a couple of Frame winter scenes, two ended up as cards for the Christmas Card Club (post here) on Sunday, and one odd one I put down on my desk, on top of some cardstock I'd stencilled  a week or so ago.

I spotted it during the day, and thought 'Oooh, that works!'

So I ended up cutting another couple- many shims and waxed paper were used!- and now I have the makings for another 3 cards.

That'll be a project for later today.

Well, I'm done, and that just leaves

.......................And Finally..........................................

So, linking up at Julias place, The Stamping Ground, and I'll be around in a while.

Just seen, whilst getting the link, that Julia has a post about the 10th Anniversary Crop HERE. It's going to be on the 1st of June 2019, so lots of warning for you to make plans. And in Shrewsbury. It would be fantastic if we could make this a really big one, as I'm sure there can't be many blog hops that have been running this long!

I've already looked at the train journey(have to travel up to Birmingham!) so am pencilling it in, just need to find a place to stay...
the snowflakes were a great idea - shame they took so long to die cut but worth it!

Hope your blood test goes well doesn't take as long as the snowflakes! Helen #?

I shall definitely be at the crop Shaz, it's already in my diary. Will be consulting with Eva tomorrow but I expect that she will be there too. I have been enjoying reading up about your snowflake cards. Hope you don't come home too much of a pin cushion later. Sarah #3

It can be so annoying when those dies won't cut first time, I have far too many that do this and i'm sure it's why I do not use them as much as I should it can be so time consuming. Good to know there's non of that nonsense with the TH ones your snowflake cards are super Shaz.
Hope the blood tests go smoothly later, will keep my fingers crossed for a first time hit... just like those TH dies :D

Morning Shaz. I'm definitely hoping to be at the crop next year. I'm sure you are right - there can't be many link-ups that have lasted so long! It's a great group and worthy of preservation!!! and celebration!!!
Your cards are lovely - such simple ideas, yet so effective. Well done. The cards you gave me at the crop to sell have been immensely popular - nearly all gone already!
Take care. God bless.

Such beautifully elegant cards... Doctors are notoriously bad with needles! Nurses are great :)

Woohoo for CropTen!! I've already booked a holiday cottage as I found a beaut and didn't want to risk it being booked before me. There's loads of places we want to visit as well like Ironbridge etc so it'll be a good holiday for us too. Ten years eh, who'd have thunked it?!
Love love love those snowflakes, even if they were a pin to produce, the cards are gorgeous.
Good luck with the appts - hope it all goes quickly!

Good luck with the blood test. Just had a phone call re my last blood test, got to go for another one and see the Health Trainer as I am once again anaemic. Great - and I am in bed with oedema at the moment. Plus my bad back! Whinge over.
Love all the cards you are making, snowflakes look wonderful and I love how you have done different things with them.
Thanks for the Aunt Acid picture - so typical of me.

I've just got that TH die! Now that I've seen your cards I might even end up making some Christmas cards too - gasp! That cartoon is so funny and so me! Hope your "phlebotomy" goes well (I've learned that fancy word in my new job LOL!) I always look away when they take my blood, otherwise I would probaby faint. I'm such a wuss! Enjoy your week - after the pesky medical stuff is out of the way. zsuzsa #17

Bummers on the doc appointment, Shaz. My sister starts chemo today following a lumpectomy. She shakes so bad her veins are a moving target. Love the snowflakes! I thought those were snack trays. Personally, I think sorting snowflakes is a much better use ;-) I have a new die from Stampin' UP! I've not had the chance to try yet. We shall see. Creative Blessings! ~Kelly #26
P.S. snagged your Aunty Acid cartoon. That would have gone so well with the presentation I gave at a conference last week on Social Media. LOL

Hi Shaz, I had to empathize with your needle experience. The veins on the back of my hand stick out quite clearly and yet a junior doctor once managed to make complete mess of getting a needle in place! I like your re-purposing of the snack trays - I'd say, a much better use. Your cards are lovely and I can see the happy accident is going to be just as lovely. The funny is so apt. It would, indeed, be fantastic if the upcoming crop is a really big one. It saddens me to see so many no longer participate as they once did ... it would be really great if WOYWWers from the past came along to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Have a great week - injections aside, of course. Hugs, Elizabeth x #22

Hi Shaz, Your cards are lovely.

I've had blood taking sessions like that. For a long time they had to do it by my knuckles. painful and always a good bruise. Hope yours went better today.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Lovely cards! i'm sure those snowflakes will be used up quickly! I love the snack holders you found for them - perfect! Doctors are good for some things, nurses best for others. I don't think doctors practice taking blood very often! Hope you're veins were co-operative today! Have a great week, Lindart #29

Hi Shaz, I noticed on your comment to me that you mentioned the NEC show. This one in November is usually a big one but it has changes because there are lots of other crafts there and not just paper crafting and I love to walk round the college section and of course there will be the Christmas gift section and all the art stuff too, it's quite different from the one earlier in the year and Stampers Grove will be there who sell lots of the stuff that Paper Artsy used to sell at the shows. Hope the hospital visit went okay too. Have a great woyww and a happy crafty week, Angela x16x

Absolutely love your "flurry of snowflake cards" Shaz - white on white is always a clear favourite and yours are gorgeous. Sorry you had trouble finding the "sweet spot" with the die cutting. I've got a "no more shims" mat (a thicker version of the normal silicone tan mat) for my Cuttlebug and that does the trick for embossing but not sure it would work with die cutting, which is something I'm fairly new to. Hope your blood results are good and I sympathise (empathise!) with you over the taking blood issue. My veins are awful too, despite having had a port. Ruddy chemo affects everything doesn't it. I'm spitting tacks today because my first pair of the new support pants arrived today and they don't fit. History repeats itself. Spoke to the rep and she's very annoyed that this has happened - yet again. More delays, and my hernia is now quite large. CT tomorrow will confirm it - thanks for your comment and good wishes for that! More tacks got spat because after all that faffing with the delivery co. on the phone y'day, the driver was NOT given my message. Fortunately by that time the road had been cleared but I was not best pleased. And then to find that the pants in the parcel didn't fit... NOT a good day Chez Shosh. Lol at the kitty and the cheese. They've got an uncanny 6th sense, haven't they.

Happy WOYWW,

HI Shaz, love the snowflake cards :) I tend to cut mine in big batches too because, its so much easier to just grab them already cut when you are in the mood to play with them. ~Stacy #32

Must admit Shaz if I was within cooee of Shrewsbury I’d there at the crop like a shot. But I’m not, I made one crop in 2018 and that was an utter miracle. Nit sure this old girl would make it up there again. But won’t say never. Ditto on blood issues Shaz. Drs unless anesthetists are the pits at getting blood and you really will hurt. I had them get an anesthetist to come and do it, esp if a cannula is needed like when in ICU.
Pray it goes well for you.

I so agree with your last comment, we have circled the date already.
have a good week, hope the blood tests go ok.

Hi Shaz, good luck with the appointments! I had similar problems last year when anyone tried to get blood, but my veins are ok now thankfully. I'm liking your happy accident - it looks very effective! The snowflake embossing folder is lovely, beautiful cards. Have a lovely week Heather x #33
