WOYWW #451

Wednesday again, and time to join up at Julias place, The Stamping Ground, for our regular desk hop.
My desk in all its glory-as you can probably guess, I'm still working with stencils & paste.
Right at the front, a tub of water for dunking dirty stencils in, on top of an old towel I keep in my room for drying stamps after cleaning, hence the dirty appearance!
A bit further behind that, a magnetic sheet for helping to keep the stencil still, a few tools and pots of stencil pastes.
The black tile is for mixing on, I've been mixing glitter into stencil paste, which is a great way of getting a glitter look, with no risk of shedding glitter everywhere.

This is a selection of the pieces I've done so far, using 3 different Christmas Trees from Sweet Poppy stencils.

They look a little dull at the moment, but as the paste dries, you see the glitter sparkle.

The green trees had glitter mixed into Translucent paste, the gold and silver used gold & silver glitter into the same colour paste.

The weekend saw a batch of 21 cards made using a Sweet Poppy Baubles stencil, and laminating with foil. They're in the post below this one.

Has  everyone been following all the new releases coming out of Creativation? Seen some lovely new Oxide colours from Tim, along with new tools, stencils and lots of Sizzix dies, as well as stamps. Particularly like the new Alcohol Ink storage tin- it holds 30 bottles, and will store Stickles & Pearls too.
Something I keep meaning to mention, and always forget, for those fellow Pinterest addicts. Have you seen the new feature where you can now add sub-folders to a board? I'm loving this, as now I don't need a separate board for each type of Christmas Card for instance. Where I used to have boards for Christmas trees/Santa/ Snowflakes, etc etc, now I just have one Christmas Card folder, with each type in it's own folder. Finally, they've come up with a great new idea, usually I'm not impressed when they change stuff!

I made this card up from one of the Mixed Media panels, to take with a box of shortbread down to the Oncology Clinic yesterday, as a Thank You for the Doc and staff there for looking after me so well last year when he took one look at me & admitted me, my not feeling well turning out to be Sepsis. I had no idea how serious that was, and since I've been out, I've seen so many news items about people who contracted Sepsis, and have lost limbs, and their sight, some even dying because of it. I'm still shocked that I left hospital without any serious repercussions. I mean, we've all heard about septicaemia, or blood poisoning, but I always just thought it was a bit of an infection mainly picked up from gardening related injuries.  So be aware, everyone, and get any potential infection checked out ASAP.

 And finally .................

Love that funny at the end! You are indeed very fortunate tohave recovered so well from your sepsis, there has been so much publicity about it recently it is scary how often it strikes! But, on to better things - your cards are gorgeous and I agree that mixing the glitter with the paste is so much less messy!! I still don't do Pinterest (not enough time but ...) but am glad they've improved it for you. Helen #1

What a stunning collection of cards and I love the glittery/translucent look you have achieved. Well done for cleaning your stamps as I imagine the glittery paste could be a problem when dry. Have a lovely week.

Morning Shaz. I am exhausted after reading this and the previous blog post!!! You have achieved so much! Well done you. That thank you card is beautiful, and I'm sure the staff appreciated it - and the shortbread! Love the funny! Glad I'm not the only one who does such things... although I confess, I have actually hoovered the living room this morning (got folk coming round later!)
It sounds like you are firing on all cylinders, girl. Brilliant.
Take care. God bless.

The sepsis was a close shave and I'm so grateful that you were picked up quickly and treated immediately. So that's a nice touch taking the medics a thank you! Those glittery tree cards are just lovely - I really do like your style, the foiled cards you've been making recently are just gorgeous too.

Happy WOYWW. Christmas cards!! They are gorgeous, but definitely I will be avoiding until July at the earliest (I normally do some Christmas in July challenges). Great idea to mix glitter into paste. Did not know about that new feature on Pinterest. Some of my boards could be split up, so that is something to do when I am watching some boring television! Ali x #28

I love the drama of the green trees on that dark background so much Shaz, and holy cow that was pretty scary to read from the sidelines so, I am sure it was a bigger shock for you to know how lucky you were to get a great doctor. :)
that card is gorgeous. ( they all are ) :) ~Stacy #32

Your desk is a hive of activity with almost a production line going on! You're certainly ahead of the crowd, Shaz, in terms of next year's Christmas cards! Done and dusted - now you're free to do whatever you want for the next 11 months LOL! They all look wonderful! We should all print that slogan and put it on the door of our craft rooms! Thanks so much for visiting and sending the folders. Please convey my thanks to Doug as well for posting them. They're just the ticket! Have a lovely week! zsuzsa #7

You are well on your way for Christmas!! Love the glitter paste idea. I've been watching the videos from Creatavation; love Tim's cutting pad, and the new Dina Wakely colors. I just got the 2nd set of Oxides, so will have to wait a bit on this third set. But my-oh-my, all the new releases are so tempting!! Have a great week.

Your cards are gorgeous - the foil on black is truly stunning and you really are going to be sorted for Christmas at this rate! I think that's a lovely thing to do to thank the doctor and staff who looked after you - Sepsis is getting into the media more and more now so hopefully people are a lot more aware of it - you were certainly lucky that day.
Have a great week,

It was great to read how well you are and the wonderful thanks you to the medical staff. lets hope this year is healthy and that you can resit test bones against floor and other objects that now and then emanate "hit me". Love the cards and the craft sign will become my mantra.

Love your final picture - so funny!
You got me all confused, not difficult with jet lag, I began wondering if I was in a time warp and it was Christmas again, or had I slept and missed it. You are obviously getting ahead. I can see the glitter on the black cards but I must say that I adore the card you have made for the hospital. Beautiful Shaz.
Take care andHugs 7 (Thanks for visiting me whilst I was sleeping) xxx

You are very organised playing with stencils and having a tin of water right next to it... I keep on going to the kitchen back and forth to clean my stencils. I think I am going to find me a bowl that my stencils fit in too. Also thanks for the pointing out the new feature at Pinterest, I had not seen it (I'm not visiting much there) but be able to make sub-boards sounds really neat, I could use that too! Thanks for your visit the other day, happy woyww and a big hug from Holland. Marit #24

Oh, Shaz, what a great post! I learned something! I never thought of mixing glitter right in with the modeling paste! Thank you for that tip!
How sweet of you to remember the doctor and the onocology group. It is wonderful that he saw right away that you were in trouble. I hope everything is well with you now. Lastly, I love the sign at the end of your post! Amen, to that! Thank you for stopping by my blog earlier. #34

Love your ideas, Shaz - great idea for controlling glitter which I rarely use because it hangs around forever and always manages to get in my hair amongst other places lol! I love the idea of the magnetic sheet for stencils too - very clever. Thank you for your lovely comment. Things are at last starting to pick up - today my hubby's plaster came off and he's got a boot for the next fortnight, and then he will be able to drive again, and he will be able to look after me after my operation. The pre-assessment went well today - very thorough. I am seeing the anaesthetist a week tomorrow, and then hopefully we'll get a date nice and quickly and I can go in and get it sorted - it's all become a total pain recently! I love the card you made for the hospital staff - despite the awful problems in the NHS (generated by politics), the staff are all absolutely marvellous, aren't they - even under such intense pressure they continue to be so cheerful and caring.

Happy belated WOYWW,

What a lovely thank you card, I'm sure people like that don't get enough thank yous for the work they do, and I'm glad they did a great job with you! Your cards are beautiful, just gorgeous! As far as Pinterest goes - I let out an audible "Nooooo! Really! Wow!" I will have to go right now and check that out! They should have done it years ago. The other thing they should have done years ago was to automatically put my Pinterest Boards in alphabetical order on my page - that can't be too hard, can it? But all my new boards are stuck down at the bottom. Grrr! Thank you for your visit! Lindart #37

Lindart said...

Hi Shaz, I know I can move things around in Pinterest, but it used to much easier, it seems much more difficult now, for some reason. I just wish they went automatically in order - can't be that hard, can it? LOL! Lindart
