WOYWW #404

Well, here we are, two months down already. Time flying past, and to be honest, not a lot yet happening this end, other than a bit of organising.Did get one gorgeous piece of Happy Mail, from our lovely Debbbie, of Tattered Rocks.
 Isn't it just awesome?

Next on  my desk are these- water soluble oil pastels. I've seen a lot of good things written about these, people comparing them very favourably to Tim Holtz's Distress Crayons, and to Gelatos as well. Notice these are water soluble ones, not just bog standard oil pastels. This pack of 24 cost me £8.50 from Amazon, plus shipping. So a lot less than the other two products mentioned.
Nice range of colours too, so I'm intending to have a play with them in my practice journal and see what happens.

As you can see, with a bit of a water spritz, they do indeed blend really well.

Last thing for this week, the Distress Oxide pads arrived. I'm going to see what I think of these, and whether they are different enough to justify the outlay when more come out. The one thing that really caught my eye so far was how even the palest colours show up on dark cardstock, even black, when they dry. So that will be an interesting experiment with some scrap black cardstock.
Well then, time to link up with our Julia, at The Stamping Ground, and I'll be visiting in between naps, lol.

Mm Shaz I love the look of Oxide pads as they're like pigment pads and very versatile. Still too dear for me to justify buying here, will wait for dust to settle on them and get some later on, as hopefully some of free post to Oz US eBay site will get them in.
Loving my CCDs as three more arrived this week, didn't share as haven't had time to play, they do look good, bought on auction as some sellers offer auction now.
I've about ten gelatos and they're quite enough for me. I underuse them anyway.
Finally WOYWWed today, mind you really don't have time to blog.
Pray you're growing stronger each day, have you any biopsy results yet, Shaz??..
hugs and God bless you dear Shaz, so nice to see your desky share, happy WOYWW!!!!
Thanks for sharing!

I can't wait for my Distress oxides to arrive. I found a site which does them for £3.50 each so ordered the lot. I've also ordered a set of Neocolor II water soluble crayons to try as I love creating my own backgrounds. Have fun with your goodies. Sarah #24

I have that set of oil pastels and use them more than my distress crayons. I prefer them actually over those and the Gelatos. I was not going to invest in the new distress oxide pads but when you said they show up on black I find myself reconsidering....DBW #23

The canvas is lovely- lucky you! I haven't had chance to play with my Distress Oxides yet, but I watched a great video about them on Jennifer McGuire Ink's blog and I highly recommend checking it out. Glad you are so positive and hoping that your recovery is going well.

You know, I'm making notes of all your product tips for the day my eyes and hands can't do this stitching lark! I have tried cardmaking a couple of times, but find it intimidating and I feel like I'm trying to force the ideas out which stresses me. I am extremely interested in all the fun looking products though. Here's hoping the inspiration presents itself one day:) Have a great week experimenting with your oxides - EmbroidRage #3 x

Beautiful card that you received! Lots of new goodies to play with too. I haven't seen those distress Oxcide inks before. I'll have to go look up how they are different as I love the original distress inks.

Two months already? Good grief. Am pleased that progress is continuing, slow is fine! value your opinion about the Oxides, I'm pretty unconvinced as yet. Probably because there's always such a frenzy around any new TH stuff! The pastels are marvellous coloured directly onto solid stamps and spritzed with water to make it like ink, lovely finishes. Have fun!

Yeah I agree gelato water solubles are lovely but too pricey glad you found a good value alternative - I'm sticking with the wax watercolours - I have yet to find anything with better pigment and one crayon lasts me years....and I use them all the time I'm at 28 this week

I like my Portfolios too and I also have the Prima ones which is a similar product but with different colours. They complement each other nicely! I've heard of the Oxide pads but I can't see how they could be different from the regular ones! Tell us next time! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #26

I have to say I love the Portfolios. I've always like water soluble crayons and the like and these are really good. I am working with my Oxides and so far I'm quite impressed particularly with their coverage on paper and they are so vivid even on black card which you don't get with Distress inks.... so we will see. Thanks for the visit to mine and happy woyww, Angela x 21

IT WAS YOU! Couldn't remember where I'd seen all the TH MM dies cut out, but knew it was on a desk here somewhere. It was the spark which got them on my birthday list! Glad it did too. I was hoping I'd see what you did with them as they seemed harder to deal with once in my hands. They sat on my desk for a while until inspiration hit and I made the 4 cards and then the journal page. Thanks Shaz
Loving your happy mail and never heard of the Oxide pads, where have I been hiding? Just resigned from my job so hopefully normal crafting levels and awareness will return soon! Thanks for the visit BJ#16

Hi Shaz! Looks like you have lots of new toys to play with. Interesting note on the Watercolor crayons. I have Gelatos, one set of Tim's as well as SU from eons ago. The pigments on yours look fab and brilliant. Thanks for stopping by my blog this week. I slept like a rock Monday night LOL. You said you purchased that set so am sharing a you tube link with you that gave me the 4th of July idea. I had planned to make 'sparklers' with the set but what this lady does if so pretty... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q_Jst-eKIk&list=LLMLyiMmjytXqxmNJrQW-MzA&index=18 Creative Blessings! Kelly

The card you received is stunning! Have fun with the crayons, I myself use Caran d'Ache watersoluble crayons and I like them, but haven't tried any other brand. Have fun playing with all the new materials! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday, enjoy your week. Love from Holland, Marit #30

What a simply gorgeous gift, Shaz! I've got some oil pastels but haven't tried them yet - they were part of a huge consignment of art materials that came our way last year from a friend of my hubby's. Not sure if they are water soluble or not. So glad you've been investing in the same toys that I have and it will be interesting to compare notes about them. I'm so glad I spotted the TH stamp platform before I bought a Misti and I can't wait for it to come! I see you've done a review of the new DO pads and I'll hop over there and comment.

You and I are a pair, with our naps on the recliner! I spend most of my time there these days. I'm getting a bit better each day but managed to exhaust myself completely this a.m. washing my hair and helping my hubby with new bedding and laundry sorting. I had to lie on the bed for a bit after that! Slow progress but getting there. Appt. to see surgeon end Apr. and further surgery after that - not something I relish but necessary to keep the evil Miss Piggy (hernia) at bay!

Loads of love to you both, and happy belated WOYWW,
