Lavinia Stamps Mosaics

Two cards here using some of my favourite stamps and definitely my favourite colour scheme in this one. I randomly stamped a bunch of Lavinia Stamps onto white card using Onyx Black Versafine.
Then I used a Woodware punch to cut out as many pieces as I could get out of the images.

Square punches are a bit odd, when you buy them.

The one I used for this was described as a 1"punch when I bought it, but the sides measure 1 1/4". I bought another 1" punch, but the sides of that  are 3/4", its the corner to corner measurement that is an inch. I haven't actually found a 1" punch that gives 1" sides yet. Its easy to cut them with a ruler, I know, but a punch is quicker.
The squares were matted onto black card, in a grid. I use some thin strips of card I cut for the purpose, to keep my lines straight, with a ruler at the top & side.

It was trimmed to leave a border roughly the same as the joints between the squares. The sentiment was stamped in Onyx black again onto a scrap of white card, matted onto black, and some black acrylic hearts added.

The Mosaic panel went on to a white square card base. with some black &white eyelash wool wrapped around the cards spine.

I wanted to add some colour to the next one, so I stuck a selection of squares down onto scrap paper with repositionable tape.I added the colour with Inkylicious Colour Duster brushes, Distress Inks in Spun Sugar, Dried Marigold, Shaded Lilac and Salty Ocean.

I matted them up onto black card again, in the same order.

Trimmed the matt down, added it to a square card base again, and some multi coloured wool added to the spine. I treated a scrap of card with the same colours, then stamped the sentiment onto it, and added clear acrylic hearts this time.
I've also entered these in this months Challenge at Lavinia Stamps, which is 'Use a die cut or punch'

Supplies; Assortment of Lavinia Stamps
 Versafine Onyx Black inkpad
Distress inkpads: Salty Ocean, Dried Marigold, Spun Sugar,Shaded Lilac.
 White card to stamp on
 Black card for matting
 Square card bases.
Colour Duster Brushes, or sponges.

Such great cards Shaz! I just assumed a 1 inch punch would have 1 inch sides! Wondering about square dies now. Very cool look on your cards, both with color and without. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend!

Love that card, Shaz, and yet another idea to try out, if and when I get my room properly straight. The dogs are enjoying the clear floor at the moment - must try to keep it that way. My scaffolding has now gone, but I quite miss having the builders around. Still they will be back in two weeks to do the jobs on my second list, including the base for the new greenhouse and putting the greenhouse up as well, not to mention as many odd little things that I could think of that needed finishing off. When Doug has a little time to spare, it is quite easy to get to the craft computer at the moment to sort out the confusion I have created. I will even make some cheese scones. Hope you are managing to sleep in this heat. xx Maggie

These cards are both so lovely......Black and white always looks so classy, but the coloured one is great too. I do like making cards with scraps, but haven't got a 'non-inch' punch, so just cut with a small square Nestie. Good luck in the challenge, and thanks for sharing with us at Lavinia Stamps.

Hi Shaz, LOVE those cards - what a fab technique and the Lavinia stamps work so well too. I've just checked through my punches as a I could have sworn I'd used a punch for covering inchie cubes, but if I did have one I've lost it. (Damn!) Sorry. Stampin' Up have a 1 inch punch, at £14.95 it is expensive, but they are good quality the item code is 124094 (in the catalogue to June 2013 - you'd have to check with your local rep though. MMx #46

I've never been successful at making a mosaic card. I get the rows right, but not the columns, or I get the columns right, but not the rows. You did an excellent job.

Hi Shaz,

Love your silhouette designs. Have you ever thought that you could sell some of your designs to a tile manufacturer? Some would make great bathroom or kitchen tile designs. Have a good WOYWW week. Kind regards, john-w #23

Beautiful card Shaz! I love the stamping and the way you put them together. I am a great lover of stamps and punches and it never fails to amaze me how they are never exactly the size they say. Have a creative week! Thanks for visiting my desk and leaving such a nice comment. Vickie #80

Obviously, punch manufacturers work on the same principle as tv makers, measuring on the diagonal. Whose "bright" idea was that, I wonder? I will try to get my head back into some semblance of order and email Doug then. I will gather all his emails first and check just what I have done. Must watch Barbara Gray in the Classroom first, though. Speak soon. xx Maggie
