WOYWW #192

Good Morning all, and again its time for the Wednesday stalk over at The Stamping Ground, under the watchful eye of our hostess, Julia.

Picture of my desk this week is the first 9  blocks for my LilyBo quilt. You can just about see the piece of paper I was planning out my sizes on at the top. Ok, so this was (at least) the fourth piece with a plan on, so I guess you could say I'm running with Plan D! Not worrying, I've got plenty of alphabet left yet.

First square for my quilt- along with the manual for my sewing machine, lol. I've had it a few years, so that tells you just how often I use it.

One of the people making quilts had posted about using fleece blankets for the back of the quilts, so when I saw these, I let Jo know about them  so she could put a 'heads up' on her LilyBo Quilts site as at 120x150cm they are pretty much the perfect size for backing a quilt. I found them in B&M, a pair of blankets for £3.99.
Quite a few colour choices too. Not too thick, and the edges are just blanket stitched, so no bulk.

Quick picture of another bargain for this week, courtesy of Poundland.

How cool are these? I put a ruler next to them so you can get an idea of the size, although looking at the pic, its not showing up very well. Just measured them and they are 2" tall. They'd make great focal points for a card, that can be taken off and then be used as a fridge magnet. They're plastic too, so not too heavy, and should take Alcohol ink/Stains/paints I expect.

I'm back at work as of Monday just gone, so its back to juggling my time. Saw the Doc last Thursday, and he said he had no need to see me again, just keep up with the Physio visits, and bear in mind it will be 3-4 months before it really gets back to normal.

One card I've done over the last week:
A really simple Engagement card. Just a sheet of white pearl card run through the 'bug with the Swiss Dots folder (twice, just flipping it round to do the extra length). Trimmed down, matted onto dark blue and mounted on the front of a white pearl card base. The offcuts provided the two squares also matted onto dark blue, a diamante heart threaded onto some Dark blue organza ribbon and the ribbon stuck down on the back of the first square with DST. The sentiment , stamped in a navy blue & heat embossed,is from some sets of 'Stick n Stamp' magnetic stamps, made by Rubadubado, which I bought really cheap  a few years ago in a sale. They used to do loads of these sheets, with Words, Relations, Greetings etc in all sorts of different fonts. This font is called Vivaldi, and the words themselves are each separate, but I have a feeling they are pretty much unavailable now, which is a shame because they are really very useful.

I've just remembered, if any of you saw the post about my faulty Distress re-inkers, an update - I e-mailed Ranger with a picture of them, and the following day I had an e-mail back apologising for them, and asking for my address so they could send me out replacements! How's that for Customer Service?

So I shall catch up with you all over the next few days, ( I'm on afternoon shift, and I've got Physio Thursday morning), so may take me a couple or three days this week. Have a great Wednesday.

Had to smile at having to dig out the instruction book, sounds just like me. Quilt coming along beautifully, can't wait to see the finished article. Wish I'd known about the fleecy blankets I paid more than that for a piece of fleece from the local fabric shop.
Thanks for visiting already.

Happy Weds Shaz! Loving your quilt! I love them but can't sew a lick. Have you ever read the Elmcreek Quilt series books? They are historical fiction with quilt lore and friendship woven into the stories. Love them. Your engagment card is lovely. Love the way the focal image pops against the white. Love Ranger! I checked my reinkers last week and thank you for the heads up. Mine were ok. Have a great week!!

Those are lovely quilt squares, until I clicked on the pic I thought they looked like stamps, as in the postal variety, not the crafting variety! Great deal on the blankets too and a lovely card. Yes, the Ikea Expedit system is brilliant, I'd get some more but I already had all those sets of plastic drawers in the basement and I like to reuse and recycle where I can.

Some little child is going to love that quilt. I can use the old machine I have without any instructions, almost with my eyes closed (I might do better threading the needle if I did close my eyes), but the other one is a total mystery still. On the subject of good service, we bought a new computer chair in October, and two weeks ago, one of the castors broke. It came from Amazon so I was on the phone quick smart. No argument, no problem, just the logistics of ensuring the new one arrived first so that we could pack the old one in that box to get it collected. All done and dusted in 48 hours. Thanks for your visit. I thought I was up late doing my posting, but I think you were even later. Keep up the sponging and colouring (sorry, Physio). xx Maggie #20

I lurve that engagement card, so elegant and sophisticated...just like me.....NOT!!!!
I think we must be kindred spirits, pinning and tacking is sooooo boring and I seem to do ok without! What are B&M shops? Can't place them....or am I being really stupid?? Because those fleeces are reasonable. Good luck with the non-pinned quilt!!

Shaz I cannot tell you how weird it is to see 'my' stamps on blogs ha ah aha, I can't wait to see what you get up to with it... fell off my chair laughing about the sewing manual - I do exactly the same - i for the life of me cannot remember the combinations one needs with these fancy thing that present me with a choice of ten feet and you have to match it to your choice of stitch...hove a fun week with you new purchases, and so glad you are well again,

oh and thanks for coming to see me at my desk this morning

Hi Shaz
Great news about your arm.
Your quilt blocks look fab, such lovely bear pictures. The fleesey backing work very well for my quilt (just finished) but next time I will bind the edges instead of sewing the 2 sides together... I think it will look neater, so bear (no pun intended) that in mind when you do yours.
Have a great WOYWW

Can I hand wash my fleece blanket in a Sterlite plastic storage bin?
I have 2 guinea pigs and I use fleece in their cage... I'm hand washing the fleece for the first time... And I was wondering if I could use a Sterlite plastic storage bin (clear) to wash the fleece in. Will the detergent ruin the plastic or something like that? Also, does regular dawn soap ruin plastic bins? Also any tips on how to hand wash the fleece blankets very well, wash the fleece, how to rinse the soap off when I'm done... Etc how should I Hand wash the fleece (step by step guide please!) thanks so much :)
