WOYWW #188

Wednesday AGAIN? Seriously? Well, as I posted below, the splint is off, just having to get the shoulder mobile again. Easier said than done, but plodding along. So I can actually do a bit of stuff now, and this weeks project is unmounting all my wood mounted stamps. That of course also means re-organising my folders of unmounted stamps to put them away. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

It will have been a good idea when it's finished-and I'm sorting out some stamps I haven't used, and not likely to, to go to our Daughter in Law, for the Grandchildrens card making. The reason for sharing my messy desk? Whats on Your Workdesk Wednesday, hosted by Julia at The Stamping Ground, where crafters the world over browse round each others desks, trying to work out who's is the messiest, lol.
It's going well, all things considered, and the blue Tesco's bag on the left is now full of empty wooden blocks. I'm keeping some of the smaller blocks, 'cos I reckon with some velcro stuck to them, I will have a few spare blending tools, a la Tim Holtz.
Oddest thing I have discovered during all this unmounting? I have 13- yes, 13, Thank You stamps! Why? How grateful do I need to be?
Grateful at least for all my WOYWW friends- have a great day, and I'll meet up with you somewhere on the net today.

Wow, 13 thank you stamps is an awful lot of gratefulness! It's a good idea to unmount wooden stamps, one we might try, once we have finished peeling our clear ones off the acetate they come on and decanting into old CD cases that is.

That is another job I need to do, getting those stamps off their wooden blocks. Using the see through Clarity stamps and the lightweight mounts has spoiled me completely for the heavy wood blocks. I just need to make sure I have a mount big enough to take the larger wooden mounted stamps. You have a good reason for any untidiness having moved rooms and damaged yourself in the process. I am sure you will soon get it all sorted. I have one wood mounted Thank You but I have not looked at the unmounted lot yet. Have fun sorting and take care. xx Maggie #32

Thats a giggle to have so many thank yous, you must be grateful or want to say it many times over. I do not envy you the job of unmounting I did it years ago and have never looked back, try and catalogue at the same time it is well worth the effort.

Oh and get some little door knobs and glue them onto the blocks this is what I did then I attached the Velcro to some etc....

How many Birthday or Happy Birthdays do you have?

Happy WOYWW

Your stamp reorganisation is excellent, Shaz. I did mine some time ago, and kept all the blocks - the small ones are now made into blending tools with cut 'n dry foam stuck to them. I am very glad to hear your shoulder is at last on the mend - you must be highly relieved to be free of the splint. Just don't do too much though!!

Thanks for your lovely comment. Yes, my hubby's bear is looking very smart now, isn't he! He's got a bit of a glint in his eye, I think.

Hi Shaz, good to hear that you have the splint off but you still need to take care.....I know you know that already! Love the idea of de-wooding the stamps, you will have so much more space, wish I could convince myself to do it too. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #47

LOL! I never counted my Thank You stamps but it seems that I NEVER have the size or scrip I NEED!! I unmounted my stamps years ago and have never regretted it, they are so much easier to store, and now I rarely buy a mounted stamp. Everyone seems to have caught the "Tidy Up Bug" the only Bug I have is refusing to leave... LOL Maybe the Tidy bug with show up later!!

I'm glad your splint is off, that must make life easier for you. The sorting out is going well, I love chucking stuff out and rationalsing my stash. It's almost better Ethan the crafting! God, that sounds so sad!
It would be so fab if you did make it down for the crop, we are only about 10 miles from Avebury! Ooooh, there's tempting :) you know you want to....tempt tempt!

agh! smaller wooden blocks in the Tesco's bag??...are you a rubber stamper de-clamper!?! It does make me cringe like nails down a black board, weird! But I don't think I could do that, it would be like, having a pet chicken and then being told it was for Sunday lunch!! Happy WOYWW
and Happy New YEAR!!

I have large boxes of stamps on wooden blocks and often wonder if it would be worth the effort to unmount them but i think i am just plain lazy!! ;) Glad to hear your shoulder is healing and you are out of the cast, take it easy and don't do too much!! Annette #37

Becky said...

Wow, that is quite the undertaking! And 13 thank you stamps is a lot, but I'm sure you had good reason for purchasing each and every one of them. Haha!

Princess Judy Palmer said...

Oh, I had a good laugh over how many thank you stamps you had. I remember at one organizational time I discovered just how many I had and it was silly amount. And (ashamed to admit) I'm lousy at thank you cards! Yes, definitely time to purge... lots of happy birthday stamps too that seem redundant. It is good to have an elegant one, a whimsical one, and a generic one but two large drawers full may be a big overkill.

So tell me how/what you are doing with your formerly wood mounted stamps. Are you keeping them on the foam they were on (seems really sticky) or are you somehow getting them off the foam too. If so, how? Then once you have naked rubber, what do you do with it? I'm just curious as I am far too lazy to do anything with my wood mount stamps but leave 'em alone.

Great post Shaz, it's a bit of a job the unmounting of the stamps but lots of people do it these days - so much more space is achieved. Great idea also to make blending tools out of the smaller ones - top marks for thinking of that.

I think it's lovely that you have 13 Thank You stamps... a sign of something rather nice, I'd say! Good idea to convert the smaller blocks into blending tools. Good also to see your files of sotred stamps - I've got to do something similar soon with mine... they're in their packets in magazine box files at the moment, and it's starting to bug me! Happy WOYWW!

Hello Shaz, and thanks much for the warm welcome to WOYWW. It's my 1st 'official' time...I would browse around, but had just way too much mess to participate. I'm just trying to get some of my newer stuff purchased since Sept. cataloged in a spreadsheet. Then I have to empty the drawers of stamps drawer by drawer (might show that next week!) to add to the spreadsheet. I'm so disorganized I get a lot of duplicates just cause I don't remember what I have. Hopefully I'll be able to take the spreadsheet in some form when I shop, and avoid so many duplicates. (Oh well, they will be nice for some blog candy, and I can share them with another cardmaker). Hope your shoulder continues to mend well, and that you make tons of progress on your unmounting. That's a 'someday' task I need to consider. Will be joining as a new follower, and hope you enjoyed what you saw at Carolina Cards.

Glad your shoulder is showing some improvement!

I can empathise with the thirteen thank you stamps - but you see, sometimes a calligraphic font isn't right - you need something modern or retro.... and then before you know it a monster is born!

Happy New Year - hope it's a good one for you. Thanks for stopping by!

I really giggled over your thank you stamps! Oh, each year I start to unmount my stamps and each year I get a bit further. I should start this task back up...What a chore! I love visiting your blog, always makes me smile. Thank goodness you are healing well. it's horrible to want to do something and you can't....but somehow we find ways..right! I had both arms in casts from fingertips to pits and remember typing on the computer with a pencil in my mouth! Where there is a will there is a way! Thank you for your visit,

I just burst out laughing at your 13 thank you stamps. That sounds like me and that is why I am in the process of organising my stamps. I know I have something, but I can never find the darn thing when I need it, so I just convince myself I never had it and go out and buy another. Don't you think it is weird how the WOYWWers seem to start doing the same thing at the same time? This week seems to be organise your stamps' week.
Happy belated WOYWW!
