WOYWW #174

Back again at last! Been months since I joined in, but knew I wasn't going to get time to visit, so didn't feel it was fair to post. But I have been posting some stuff this last weekend, and eventually I will put up some pictures of our bedroom when its all finally done, but here are a few of the early stages below. So its not exactly Whats On Your Workdesk from me, more OMG! its a building site,lol.   Its been a bit difficult to get finished, as we work a late shift, and my youngest son works nights, so anything that makes a noise is out during the week. However, he moved out a couple of weeks ago to live with his girlfriend- I feel I've not so much lost a son as gained a bedroom, along with half a bathroom and kitchen,lol. The ultimate plan, when our room is finished, is to decorate out what was his room, I will move my craft stuff in there, then we can decorate what was my craft room, and Beloved Husband will have somewhere to do all his computer builds/repairs, etc. Save our living room looking like the warehouse at PCWorld.IMG_6122 moddeddormer after 2
  This is the Dormer window that was in our bedroom- you can see how low the ceiling of it was.
     This is the dormer after it had been raised  and widened, complete with plasterboard and lights.It was only widened by 1 foot each side, and about an extra foot of headroom, but its made the room seem enormous.
SDC10025SDC10028VLUU L310W L313 M310W / Samsung L310W L313 M310W

All plastered, including the cupboard Beloved Husband built to hide the combi boiler. Somewhere I have photos of this room when we first moved in- long before digital cameras! I will find some and scan them in- there were lots of shelves & cupboards that have gone now.
Just have to keep repeating the DIYers Mantra- It will look lovely when its finished…It will look lovely when its finished…
Seriously though, all the skirting, door & doorframe has been replaced( I think the old stuff was probably as old as the house, 100 years+), all varnished now, should be wallpapering this weekend. Lots of Ikea wardrobes & drawer units already in, new bed to be ordered for after the papering is finished, oh and next week is our 3rd Wedding Anniversary, so we are going to Paris for 3 nights!!! Going to visit the Louvre ( always wanted to go there), go up the Eifel Tower, probably take a boat trip up the Seine, then fit in as much else as we can. So I will be missing again next week, but back with some fantastic pics ( I hope) the week after. Have a great Wednesday, and I will catch up with all of you when I get back from work (or tomorrow, more likely).

WOW Shaz I can feel your pain and elation at getting the construction work done. I am still in the throes of working on it here and feel like it is going to be another hundred years before it ever gets done! Have a fun holiday. Have a great week. Vickie #22

Shaz, I am so jealous - Paris for 3 days. It is so long since I was there, but I do have loads of wonderful memories and the photos to prove it. You must go to the Sainte Chapelle. It has the most fantastic stained glass I have ever seen. Glad to see the renovating is coming towards its end. However, I cannot see Doug doing all his work upstairs - it won't happen! Have a wonderful break. xx Maggie #36

Hi Shaz. Bear with it - short term pain, long term gain and all that!
Just a small suggestion for your trip to Paris. The Louvre is stunning but I would also highly recommend Musee L'Orangerie and Musee d'Orsay galleries as they are truly out of this world;

Hope you have a great trip and tell us all about it on your return. Hugs, Buttons #57

I guess it's more of, "What Have You Been Working On," lol. Which is perfectly fine.

The raised dormer looks like a big improvement.

My diy mantra is, "It's got to get worse before it can get better." :-)

Well, happy wedding anniversary, and congratulations on a beautiful "new" room! You're right, it's not a huge difference and yet it is. It's all down to the amount of light you now have let in... well done you!
